Dana Carvey returned as his character The Church Lady in the cold open of the May 7, 2016 episode of Saturday Night Live. During the Church Chat segment, The Church Lady interviewed failed Republican candidate Ted Cruz (Taran Killam) and presumed Republican nominee Donald Trump (Darrell Hammond).
Carvey was a cast member on the show between 1986 and 1993 and has returned several times to host and make other special appearances.
