Cultural Annotation Site Genius Offers a New Feature to Allow Annotation on Sites Other Than Their Own

The cultural annotation site Genius, formerly Rap Genius, now offers a new feature to allow annotation on sites online other than their own. Genius works by allowing a community of users to make and change annotations to text, and was originally used to provide explanations of rap lyrics.

The new feature allows users to add “genius.com” in front of a desired URL to make or read annotations. For example, Shakespeare’s Hamlet can be read at shakespeare.mit.edu/hamlet/full.html without annotation, or with annotation at genius.com.shakespeare.mit.edu/hamlet/full.html
