Temple, a 75-foot-tall monumental wooden sculpture designed by American artist David Best, was recently completed on a hill above Derry/Londonderry in Northern Ireland. The sculpture, which is similar in design to the eight temples Best has created at Burning Man, was built by more than 100 local volunteers. The sculpture is a memorial to the more than 3,500 people who lost their lives in the Troubles, the conflict that roiled Northern Ireland from the late 1960s to the late 1990s. Locals have been invited to leave messages and mementos to lost friends and loved ones on the sculpture’s structure.

As with Best’s Burning Man temples, the Derry/Londonderry temple will be burned. The burning is scheduled for tomorrow night, March 21, 2015, at Corrody Road Country Park. Temple was produced by Artichoke Trust. We previously posted about the project in 2014.
