Bruce Springsteen Pays Heartfelt Tribute to David Bowie on the Opening Night of His River 2016 Tour

On the opening night of his River 2016 tour in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bruce Springsteen took a moment to verbally remember his late friend and mentor David Bowie. “The Boss” and the E Street Band then broke out into a fantastic cover of “Rebel Rebel” in musical tribute. The video, which was graciously posted by Dustin Johns, was gorgeously filmed and captured the heartfelt beauty of the moment.

I want to take a moment to say something about the passing of my good friend David Bowie. A lot of people don’t know, but he supported our music back way, way in the very beginning. In 1973 he rang me up and I visited him down in Philly where he was making his Young Americans album. He covered some of my music – “Hard to Be a Saint in the City”, “Growing Up” and he was a big supporter of ours, particularly…I took a Greyhound bus to Philly, that’s how early it was. Anyway, we’re thinking of him.
