New York City Parks & Recreations announced on May 3rd that they have renamed Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn Heights in honor of Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch who died in May of 2012. The park will now be known as Adam Yauch Park and the park’s description states that Yauch grew up playing in the playground and “was the setting for some of Yauch and his family’s fondest memories, including his father Noel teaching him to ride a bike.” Donations to the park can be made online.
When you visit his namesake park, be sure to take in the wide variety of trees, including silver lindens, London planes, pin oaks, and Norway maples. The playground also includes full and half basketball courts, a community garden, a greenhouse, a small fitness area, an open play space, drinking fountains, and a dog run.
