In 2011, professional bridal model Claudia Nallely Agres married Air Force service member Matt in a civil ceremony and never got formal wedding photos taken because he was shipped off to Germany for eight months. Recently, Claudia hired New York City-based wedding photographer Ryan Brenizer, and while Matt couldn’t partake in the shoot, she went ahead and had a unique set of groom-less wedding portraits taken wearing a vintage wedding dress. Brenizer told HuffPost Weddings that he was inspired by the series Dreams of Flying where photographer Jan von Holleben shoots his subjects from above in surreal scenes. Brenizer says, “How do you do an actual bridal shoot for a bridal model when she gets married? Yes, we could have taken all sorts of gorgeous, sensual portraits, but they would have been indistinguishable from the portraits she’d already taken with other photographers countless times, and wouldn’t feel like ‘hers.'” PetaPixel has more of the story.
