Baby Two-Toed Sloth Born at Ellen Trout Zoo in Texas

Baby 2-Toed Sloth

On January 16, 2014, a Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth was born at the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, Texas. The zoo is keeping a watchful eye over the baby boy, but are very encouraged by his ability to gain weight and his apparent strength to hang on tightly to his mother at only three days old.

At three days old, he looks good and had his first small weight gain. Staff will continue to monitor both infant and mother closely to ensure that everything is going well. This means daily treats for mom and daily weighing and health checks for son. Mom is very experienced now, takes good care of her young, and is always happy to get some healthy snacks from the keepers in exchange for a few minutes relief from her clinging infant.

Simply adorable.
