‘Augie and the Green Knight’, A Children’s Book About a Scientifically-Minded Young Girl Living in a Fantasy World

Augie and the Green Knight is a forthcoming children’s adventure story written by Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal web cartoonist Zach Weiner, with watercolor illustrations by French artist Boulet, which is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. The book centers on a strong-willed and scientifically-minded young female lead living in a world of fantasy. According to Weiner, the work was inspired by adventure books by authors like Robert Lewis Stevenson and Jules Verne, as well as the recent birth of his daughter.

My wife and I recently had a baby girl, and I had a sad thought: Although things are changing, there are still very few adventure books with female leads. There are books with little girls who are smart, sure, but there are practically no books about little girls who are smart, and scientific, and (here’s the crucial thing) risk-taking.
