Art Car: The Movie, Documentary Follows Artists Prepping For the Houston Art Car Parade

Art Car: The Movie is a 2011 documentary film made by Houston-based del monte films that “follows Rebecca Bass and her high school class as they prepare an entry for the Houston Art Car Parade.” The DVD and Blu-rays of the film were recently released and are available to purchase at their site.

…Against the hectic race to finish on time, Rebecca exposes them to the world of art and the camaraderie of tight-knit community, offering a glimpse of what life is like “outside the box.”

In exploring why art cars — and self-expression — matter in an increasingly detached world, co-directors Carlton Ahrens and Ford Gunter traveled the U.S. and the world talking to artists and academics to determine why these visionary artists can’t help but decorate their cars, how that challenges societal norms, and why we should all listen to what they have to say. After all, they are talking to you.
