The latest episode of film analysis series Every Frame a Painting (previously) examines the role that different kinds of movements play in the films of Akira Kurosawa, including those of characters, backgrounds, and cameras. The episode also employs interviews with fellow legendary filmmakers like Sidney Lumet.

For me, Kurosawa is the Beethoven of movie directors. It’s that recognizable full sound that Beethoven had that is so unmistakable.
