Elephant Rock” is an amazing natural rock formation that, when viewed from a certain angle, looks like a sleepy-eyed elephant calmly drinking water, her trunk half submerged. The enormous pachyderm, which sits on Heimaey, an island just four nautical miles off the southern coast of Iceland, was formed through basaltic lava, which engulfed the island many years ago. First hand views of the giant elephant can be had through water tours of the Westman Islands.
