Actor LeVar Burton has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to bring the classic television-series-turned-app Reading Rainbow to the web for children everywhere to experience. The goals of the campaign are to develop a web-enabled version of Reading Rainbow, create a classroom version for teachers with supplemental materials, and help subsidize costs so that needy schools can use it for free.
The Reading Rainbow television series initially aired on PBS from 1983 to 2006, and an app featuring interactive book reading and video field trips was released in 2012. From the start, it has been hosted by LeVar Burton.
