A University Crew Team Is Engulfed by Leaping Asian Carp While Rowing on a Missouri Lake

Rowers with the Washington University in St. Louis men’s crew team are engulfed by a flurry of leaping Asian carp in this extraordinary video shot last Friday during a practice session at Creve Coeur Lake in Missouri. “Asian carp” is a general term for a number of different species in the carp family–in the context of North America such fish are considered invasive species. Asian carp, particularly silver carp, are notorious for leaping when frightened by watercraft. It’s no trivial matter as a silver carp can weigh up to 99 pounds.
