A TED-Ed Animation Proposing a Different Way to Visualize Rhythm

In a musical TED-Ed lesson (previously), John Varney proposed a different way to visualize rhythm using what he calls the “wheel method.” The animated video demonstrates the method and how it can be used to visualize different styles of music from around the world.

In standard notation, rhythm is indicated on a musical bar line. But there are other ways to visualize rhythm that can be more intuitive. John Varney describes the ‘wheel method’ of tracing rhythm and uses it to take us on a musical journey around the world.
