A Superman Action Figure Flies to the Upper Atmosphere on a Weather Balloon and Returns to Earth

Mattel and DesignSpark sent a Superman action figure to an altitude of 29,000km, well into the upper atmosphere, before causing the toy to parachute back to Earth. The team used a rig that featured a GPS chip, altimeter, and radio transmitter controlled by a Raspberry Pi computer.

The team at DesignSpark posted the design files for the project to their blog so that it can be replicated, and even created an Instructables post outlining the process.
