A Jetpack Pilot Takes Flight Around the Statue of Liberty With the ‘First True Jetpack’

Test pilot and JetPack Aviation CEO David Mayman piloted a JB-9 JetPack over the Hudson River around the Statue of Liberty. JetPack Aviation calls the JB-9, “the first true jetpack.”

We believe a JetPack should be just that – a jet turbine powered backpack that is capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), is extremely light and small and can easily be carried around by the pilot. It should be powerful enough to lift the pilot quickly to thousands of feet above the ground but small enough to fit into the trunk of a car.

The company also boasts that the JB-9 is capable of flying up to and beyond 10,000 feet at speeds of more than 100 mph for 10 minute durations.
