NationSwell recently rode along with Sargeant Steve Wick, an officer with the Houston Police Department who shows heartwarming compassion as he works with the city’s homeless population. Wick leads the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT), a small group of officers and mental health case workers tasked with assisting and monitoring homeless people in Houston. In addition to responding to typical complaints associated with homelessness, the team helps homeless people find help and shelter. According to Wick, HOT has helped find temporary or permanent housing for more than 400 people since 2011.
