A Supercut of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Characters Performing the ‘Picard Maneuver’ Shirt-Tug

“Ode To The Picard Maneuver (With Data)” is a fast-paced supercut of Star Trek: The Next Generation characters tugging their shirts in Captain Jean-Luc Picard‘s signature gesture that many fans call the “Picard Maneuver”—a reference to a battle tactic in the series.

The shirt tugging was due to a uniform change in the third season from one-piece, purposefully sized-down spandex jumpsuits to two-piece pant and jacket outfits after the actors had complained about the discomfort and actor Patrick Stewart‘s chiropractor recommended he stop wearing the constrictive clothing.

LeVar Burton, who played Geordi La Forge on the show, spoke about how the revealing nature of spandex made the cast uncomfortable.

We hated our space suits. There were no pockets in them. As much as they call it a stretch fabric, spandex in that configuration doesn’t give all that much. It hid nothing.
