90-Year Old WW II Veteran Tearfully Reads Aloud a Letter He Sent in 1945 to the Love of His Life

In early 2015, Bill Moore, a 90-year old veteran of World War II in the Denver, Colorado area, tearfully read aloud a letter that he’d written to Bernadean Gibson, his late wife of 63 years, when he was fighting abroad in 1945. The letter was found inside the sleeve of a record bought at a thrift store and given to Moore at his assisted-living facility. In an interview with Denver’s 7 News, Moore expressed his joy at being reunited with the letter mixed with the sadness of having lost his wife in 2010.

“”I was really surprised. …I had no way of knowing it would show up in the way it did, and it would actually reach me. …When you’re apart for that reason, not knowing if and when you’d ever see that person again, every chance you got to communicate was just wonderful. …It’s difficult talking out loud about it to other people. …But I loved her, and she loved me. That’s all I can tell you. It’s a heartache not being with her all the time.
