In this video from the 2013 Denver Comic Con, actor and nerd icon Wil Wheaton responds to a little girl’s question about whether he was called a nerd when he was younger, and how he dealt with it. Wheaton goes on to explain that yes, he was, and she should never feel bad because other people decided she should. The video’s recent popularity on reddit caused the girl’s mother and father both to respond with their thoughts and feelings on it. Wheaton’s also elaborated on the video in a blog post on his website.
I really try my best to be the person I want other people to be. I don’t always succeed, but when I see things like this, and hear from people who have been touched or inspired by something I said or did in a positive way, it reminds me how important it is to do everything we can to be awesome.
