My dear friend Gabriel (AKA archangel) from myspace, pointed me to the laughing squid during a dialogue we had. Ever since I came to it I have been addicted. I always look forward to it in my emails. Just recently I started my own blog, and now I understand the happiness of commenting and getting involved with other blogs. Laughing Squid has brought me to new levels, and I will always be forever grateful!

Mine was a Soviet Russia moment - Laughing Squid found out about me before I found out about Laughing Squid. I then spent a couple of years as zoo keeper to the fleet of web hosting servers. Some time in that couple of years, I mentioned a little piece of software called WordPress to Scott and the rest, as they say, was history.

I first went to Burning Man in 1992/93, and followed various Cacophany Society happenings after that. I remember the squid list being somehow involved with Cacophany bulletin boards in the late 90s. And somewhere in there, there was Mondo 2000 & SRL and that ilk… and there was a lot of crossover between the various crowds, parties in a certain cul-de-sac tract home in South San Francisco…

About 5 years ago, I walked into my new workplace.. on the walls, people’s cubicles, on the men’s room mirrors, on t-shirts.. the squid.. I have been a quiet lurker in the shadows, reading and enjoying the west coast arts and life vicariously through Scott Beale. I hope that you still proudly display your first Cobalt RAQ at the office ;)

First, nice video, Eddie!

I’m not sure I remember exactly when I met Scott. I recall seeing the Laughing Squid logo on a friend’s website about 2 years ago. But I probably met Scott at a Sflickr meet or some tech schmoozefesr last year.

Scott is the best. I’m very glad to have gotten to know him and become a friend.

was drinking some coffee and reading at at a berkeley cafe, the Nomad Cafe. there happened to be some spoken word thing going on that night and the performer was just kinda talking into the microphone in between her little skits or whatever, and she mentioned ‘The Squid List’, and i was just thinking ‘wtf is that?’.

so, i managed to remember it when i got home, and thanks to google, looked it up, and was hooked ever since. maybe not my first event attendance due to the mighty tentacle, but the first i remember, was Writers With Drinks – it continues to be a favorite of mine.

all hail the squid. there should be a squid list for every major city, at least.
