to pick a nit, if "XIXLXIV, ' is supposed to = "1964" somebody got their roman numerals cockeyed.

it should be MCMLXIV.

yes, I'm a geek.

beautiful women, though (both Sonia & Violet), and a great picture.

What a truly spectral image. Violet is singular beauty from this era. It's marvelous and slightly chilling (in the best fashion) to see her doppelganger from another era.

Wow, that's pretty cool!

I walk by Spec's almost every day, but have never gone inside. I think I must make some time for it next week.

Spec’s Twelve Adler Museum Cafe is where I first met John Law in 1988. Carrie Galbraith invited John to the sketch group we did each Friday, rotating to various bars & cafes around the city. His facial hair that night cycled to muttonchops. After the drawing/sketch group session, John took us on a little field trip to climb one of the Saints Peter and Paul Church towers. This was the beginning of a long & memorable night concluding with the near beheading of Sebastian Hyde & myself. John was giving us a ride home (at that time I was living at P. Segal’s 1907 Golden Gate) as we turned on Divisadero, the rusty bolts holding the camper shell to the truck bed gave way & slid off. Luckily, Seb & I had noticed slippage prior and lay on our backs to avoid injury. The two of us jumped out, ran down the block, picked up the shell, heaving it back onto the truck –jumped in & sped home. A homeless gentleman on the corner witnessed the ridiculous spectacle, acting as a drunken cheerleader.

I’m sure John’s account of that night is far more interesting…

Uncanny ... who is Sonia XIXLXIV, anyway? Perhaps a bit of geneology digging will show that they're related ... stranger things have happened, eh? :)
