V Motion Project, A Gestural Music-Video Performance System

V Motion Project

The V Motion Project is an interactive music-video performance system that translates a performer’s gestures to music and motion graphics (video). The performer’s movements are captured by two Kinect motion controllers and projected on stage in the form of a computer generated avatar. When the performer hits certain hot spots, different music samples and notes are played. The V Motion Project is a collaboration between New Zealand creative agency Assembly and a team of musicians, programmers, and designers. For more on how the system came together, see this post by collaborator Jeff Nusz. The V Motion Project is a promo for New Zealand energy drink V Energy.
