Traveling Installation of 1,600 Papier-Mâché Pandas Used To Promote Animal Conservation

1600 Giant Pandas

To promote animal conversation efforts, French artist Paulo Grangeon created “1,600 Pandas,” a traveling installation of 1,600 recycled papier-mâché panda sculptures that has shown up in cities around the world since 2008. Each panda in the installation represents one of the 1,600 pandas that are believed to remain in the wild. The project was produced in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, Hong Kong creative space PMQ, and creative studio AllRightsReserved. The pandas are currently touring—their most recent stop was Hong Kong.
