Three Year Old Donates Her Long Locks To Make Wigs For Kids With Cancer

Emily James is a beautiful 3-year old girl who very graciously allowed her filmmaker mom to document the process of her getting a hair cut for donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. The result is the lovely short film, Emily’s Hair by FlyPress Films.

To make the transition from long hair to short hair easier on the little girl, Emily’s stylist, Matthew Collins first cut her doll’s hair giving it the same chic bob that Emily would be getting. Then it was Emily’s turn.

It was Mommy and Daddy that suggested the idea to Emily to cut her hair and donate it for cancer wigs. They sat down and explained to her that to donate her hair, she would need to cut it fairly short, and that it would be a long time before she had long hair again. They looked at pictures together of little kids with no hair, they looked at pictures of wigs and they also looked at shorter styles – and she still wanted to make the donation. It probably doesn’t hurt that in the final scenes of Tangled, Rapunzel is sporting a pretty cute bob.

As it turns out, so is Emily.

On a personal note, last year our 7-year old niece Elli also cut her very long beautiful hair and donated it to an organization that makes wigs for children. We couldn’t have been more proud of the selflessness shown by such a wonderful child.
