The Smithsonian Magazine examines the work of Kenneth Libbrecht, a Caltech professor who has studied snowflake formation for the past few decades. Libbrecht has perfected a method for growing snowflakes in his lab using microscopic ice crystals as starters. While documenting his research, Libbrecht has also become an accomplished snowflake photographer.
