The Hotel That Inspired the Stephen King Novel ‘The Shining’ Launches a Contest to Design a Hedge Maze

The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel, the 100-year-old Colorado resort that served as inspiration for Stephen King‘s 1977 novel, The Shining, has launched a contest to design a 61,500-square-foot hedge maze inspired by the climactic scene of Stanley Kubrick‘s 1980 film adaptation. The deadline for the contest (which is open to the public) is January 31, 2015, with a ribbon cutting set for April 30, 2015–the opening of the third annual Stanley Film Festival. The contest isn’t the first time the Colorado hotel has embraced its haunted roots.
