‘The First Hundred Years!’, A 1939 Newsreel About the History of Photography

Film archive British Pathé has unearthed “The First Hundred Years!”, a newsreel from 1939 outlining the evolution of the photograph from the early days of William Henry Fox Talbot and Louis Dauguerre to the most cutting edge innovations of the day. Among the breakthrough technologies highlighted in the piece are telescopic space photography, the ability to take a picture of a bullet in motion and the transmission of images across the world.

Radio has increased the news value of the photograph by transmitting it over the ether! What happens on one side of the world can be shown on the other in the same day! The apparatus is something that makes even the modern wireless fan goggle-eyed with amazement!
