This was a thrilling panel, and a great format. Jason Schultz is a terrific performer as well as a lsolid egal scholar! I was personally thrilled to see Julie Ahrens hold up the Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best PRactices in Fair Use, the distillation of community practice that made it possible for doc filmmakers to use fair use in the first place (even BEFORE they visit their lawyers!). It's here: centerforsocialmedia.org/fairuse. Doc filmmakers can use it to come to a decision of those fair use clips! (and much more) At this point, every E&O insurer in the doc biz accepts fair use claims grounded in the Statement.

ack! you know, it was an early morning (first thing) panel on a weekday, but despite 4 hours of sleep it was so worth it for me -- and the room was pretty full. way, way worth it. I'll ask Jason and poke around to see if anyone recorded it in whole or part. if I find anything, I'll update this post with media links.

if SXSWi recorded it (and I'm pretty sure they recorded audio), it takes them *forever* to put the MP3s online. but they eventually do... if/when they do, I'll certainly make some noise about it, with a post update here and over on my blog/twitter.
