Super Slow Motion Video of Rain Drops Falling on a Bed of Sand

The American Physical Society has compiled a set of super slow motion videos that demonstrate the beautiful and fascinating fluid dynamics that occur when a raindrop strikes a bed of sand. As the society notes, the impact is similar to that of an asteroid impact.

Surprisingly, we found that liquid-drop impact cratering follows the same energy scaling and reproduces the same crater morphology as that of catastrophic asteroid impact cratering.
