Sundown, A Beautiful Film About a Camp That Caters to Kids Who Can’t Tolerate Sunlight

Sundown, a beautiful short film by Liz Mandelup, about a wonderful sleep-away camp that caters to children and young adults who were born with Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a rare recessive genetic disorder in which the skin’s ability to repair itself from UV sunlight is non-existent, making daytime activities dangerous. Camp Sundown an important part of the peer supportive XP Society, offers the same activities as any sleep-away camp, but they all occur after the sun goes down.

Camp Sundown is an annual gathering of XP families and leading researchers for a family retreat and medical conference. Camp Sundown brings together children and their families to share experiences, information and laughter under the safety of the stars. This day camp experience runs on a different time clock. Turning night in to day, Camp Sundown provides a week of fun, friendship and activities. For families and children dealing with XP on a daily basis, this is a dream come true.
