Stunningly Detailed Macro Photographs of Snowflakes

Snowflake 885

Canadian photographer Don Komarechka takes stunningly detailed macro photographs of snowflakes. His elaborate photographic process involves focus stacking to extend the depth of field, and hours of Photoshop, but the process starts with a black mitten—every snowflake pictured here was photographed on a black mitten given to Komarechka by his grandmother. He is assembling his snowflake photography in an upcoming photo book, Sky Crystals: Unraveling the Mysteries of Snowflakes, which he is funding on Indiegogo.
