All money will be donated to grassroots relief efforts for the
victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The recent events in Louisiana, Mississippi, and the surrounding
areas have stunned, shocked, and angered us. They have made us
scream and cry and question. Whether we know people directly
affected or not, many of us are living our day-to-day lives here in
the Bay Area wondering what we can do to help. It all seems so big
that we can't seem to find our way in.
But we cannot allow ourselves to be paralyzed. Our jobs and our
lives are dedicated to the healthy development of children and youth
and we are needed now more than ever. We have to come together at
this time to help each other take care of our own emotional and
spiritual needs so that we can be present for the young people who
need us.
The staff at CNYD is honored to organize this special Speaker's
Forum. At this event we seek to bring together youth workers and
other community members who care about young people to:
bull Reflect on and share our thoughts, feelings, and stories related
to this crisis in a safe, respectful environment
bull Listen to and learn from professionals in the field who
specialize in working with youth experiencing trauma and displacement
bull Share strategies for helping local Bay Area youth and organize
projects to aid in hurricane relief efforts
NOTE: We apologize for the any inconvenience the date of this event
poses for anyone celebrating the Rosh Hashanah or Ramadan holidays.
Please understand that we were trying to take action as soon as
possible and that this will be just the first in a series of
discussions regarding this issue. Our communities need a lot of
healing time and we are committed to being part of the process for
the duration. If you are interested in working with us but cannot
attend this discussion on October 5th, please contact Lynn Johnson,
Youth Development Training Specialist, CNYD, at 415.495.0622 ex 303
or to get involved in future efforts.
TO REGISTER FOR THE EVENT:
Please email Scott Louie, Events Coordinator, at or
call 415.495.0622 ex 321 by Tuesday, October 4th. Seating is limited.
