Kunst Stoff presents ETC & Less Sylphides
Choreographer Tomi Paasonen's new work "ETC," premiering at ODC
Theater is a choreographic exploration and group improvisation dance
piece featuring 5 dancers, live sound design, live camera and
projections based on the principles of chain reactions, using the
means of repetition, copying, looping, feed-back, amplification,
alteration, mutation, distortion and translation of information from
one medium to another.
Insect Funeral is recording an improvised monologue spoken by a
different dancer each night. This recording will be sampled and
manipulated during the performance to create sound design and music
that both influences, and is influenced by, the dancers. Each
performance will be unique.
Live video interactions are generated in a similar way by Aaron Wolf
Baum, Ph.D.
Less Sylphides choreographed by Yannis Adoniou at ODC Theater is
complete with integral lighting, and stunning visual landscapes.
Filmmaker Austin Forbord and fashion scientist/sculptor Galya
Rosenfeld are an integral part of this performance; their work
illustrates the dialogue between past and present. Yannis has
explained the slight alteration to the title came about because "The
idea of "Less" makes a point that in our times we are very far from
the Romantic era, something that "Les Sylphides" is all about."
KUNST-STOFF is a San Francisco-based dance-theater company that
creates experimental and eclectic "art forums" under the artistic
direction of Tomi Paasonen and Yannis Adoniou.
The body of KUNST-STOFF consists of 10 versatile dancers and two
house choreographers Tomi Paasonen and Yannis Adoniou. KUNST-STOFF's
main language is dance and movement that opens a dialogue between
multiple forms of artistic expression. We aim to bring the most
interesting and talented performance and visual artists, dancers,
musicians, composers, writers, film makers and personalities under
one consensual umbrella, to create cohesive, dynamic experiences that
provoke change as they educate and entertain. The themes, genres and
participating artists vary with every KUNST-STOFF event resulting in
vibrant happenings that expand our ever-growing community of artists
and audience members. We are committed to break barriers between the
different dance techniques and transgress the traditional use of
theater.
Ultimately KUNST-STOFF is an expression of the diversity of the city
of San Francisco in all its kaleidoscopic splendor.
