Pulitzer Prize winning writer, Jane Smiley, embarked on a quest to
read one hundred novels for inspiration after 9/11. She reports back
with a bounty of perspectives about the pleasures of reading, how and
why a novel succeeds; the role of the novelist, and which books most
affected her life and career.
Jane Smiley is the author of ten works of fiction including The Age
of Grief, The Greenlanders, Ordinary Love and Good Will, A Thousand
Acres, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1992, Moo, Horse Heaven and
Good Faith. Her non-fiction includes, A Year at the Races and a
biography of Charles Dickens.
