New Langton Arts celebrates its 30th year with Trust Me, the first =

survey of the work of Bay Area performance, video and installation =

artist Tony Labat. Labat's career as an experimental artist is =

closely tied to Langton, where he received his first solo commission =

in 1978. Trust Me is presented as a collection of memorabilia and =

works sprawled across the gallery walls, mapping Labat's career onto =

major cultural, social and political events of the last quarter =

century. Documentation and relics of Labat's past projects - =

sculptural objects, video monitors, sketches and drawings, =

correspondence, press, photography - weave a loose narrative about =

Tony Labat the =E9migr=E9, the innovator, the teacher, the provocateur. =

Labat video works screen continuously in the Downstairs space during =

gallery hours. A full-color, 200-page catalog with images, critical =

essays, an interview and index of works is published in conjunction =

with the exhibition. Trust Me is complemented by a series of video =

screenings at the Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, and culminates in a =

multidisciplinary performance tribute at Langton.
