Edinburgh Castle is pleased to present outlaw writer Michael Disend
reading all new stories from his legendary PENMAN CHRONICLES, an epic
series of 1000 short stories set in modern-day San Francisco. Each
tale narrates the adventures of Penman, a bizarre spiritual seeker
and ne'er-do-well.
Long a favorite of maximum security inmates, depressed North Beach
intellectuals, anti-idiotarian bloggers, military intelligence
personnel, Tenderloin she/males, dykes on bikes, tall Asian women who
remain steadfastly vegan, chain-smoking actresses with short tempers,
Zen adepts, Mission gang-bangers, Irish boxers, and librarians of all
ages, the PENMAN CHRONICLES illuminate the hidden regions of a mind
and society best left in total blackness. At the same time, Penman
irradiates out world with scant hope and sublimated rage. Indeed, the
PENMAN CHR0NICLES take delusion to regions where moonbats and Masters
fear to tread.
Join us for this heartreaking yet oddly entertaining event.
Michael Disend is the author of STOMPING THE GOYIM, the revolutionary
work William Burroughs called "a brilliant novel which also has the
virtue of being highly readable from beginning to end."
(reissued by Green Integer , 2003)
"Forget Jude Law and rice krispies. Penman leaps off the page and
into my damp panties. You go, boy!"
- Chicory O'Malley, professional wine taster and gender specialist.
"Penman is my model. I couldn't survive in SF without looking to this
agitated, crazed, yet tender genius for guidance and succour."
- Fred Holmstead, volunteer bookbinder.
"Take me, Penman. Now."
- Cindy Shin, Clement Street restauranteur.
"Penman is from a vanished world that never was, never could be, and
won't happen again. Much like Cleveland."
- Nick Costanza, boxing historian
