"Songwriters-in-the-Round" evening, an intimate peek, first hand, at =

the vibrant Bay Area songwriter scene. Our concept is based on the =

highly successful Songwriters-in-the-Round concept established by =

Bluebird Caf=E9 in Nashville, where featured songwriters sit in a =

circle, facing each other in the middle of the floor, surrounded by =

the audience. It's a perfect opportunity to discover up-and-coming =

writers, hear hits sung by the composers themselves or just enjoy the =

intimate atmosphere while learning about the creation of music.Born =

in Canada, Marty Atkinson moved to California at age 17. He came =

from a musical family. After a year in the Southland, Marty moved to =

the San Francisco Bay area where he played in bands and worked in =

recording studios. He got a record deal with Atlantic in 1991 and =

recorded a project with Bill Halversen in Nashville. Five years =

later, Curb Records offered Marty another recording deal with his =

band Cactus Choir. The single "Step Right Up," made it onto the =

Billboard Magazine Top 100 in 1997. Its video still airs occasionally =

on CMT. Marty also was signed to a five-year songwriting contract by =

EMI Publishing. Some of his better-known songs emerged during this =

period, including the ballads "Valentine," "Avalon" and "Town of =

Hope." Marty now plays frequently in an acoustic trio with George =

Kincheloe and Lisa Atkinson (no relation) of San Mateo. His solo =

album, "Big Plans," can be found on cdbaby.com, along with the Cactus =

Choir release. Two additional albums are in production, and planned =

for release this fall.
