The Visible Theater presents "Green Bamboo Hermitage," a 20th century
ghost story from China, at the San Francisco Fringe Festival.
On the eve of the Japanese Occupation, a young couple flees Shanghai
for the home of an eccentric aunt. There, they become enmeshed in the
story of her tragic girlhood romance and how she became a widow
before she was ever a bride. To the sounds of traditional Chinese
folk melodies and 1930's jazz, classical meets nouveau as the nation
struggles for a modern identity.
