Some things may be best illustrated with drawings, whether because no
other images exist or to protect those revealing their stories.
Tonight's eclectic program examines the history of witch-hunts, looks
at early treatments for hysteria, illustrates interviews with
battered women, and brings to life art by women with mental
disabilities. A delight in portraiture is shared by an artist's
description of why, at age sixty, she entered art school; an
evocation of childhood based on early recordings of two preschoolers;
and fleeting encounters in both virtual and public space. A life
story told by a young woman and sexual reminiscences by retirees
delightfully round out the evening.

DIRECTIONS AND TRANSPORTATION
The Berkeley Art Museum, at 2626 Bancroft Way, and the Pacific Film
Archive Theater, at 2575 Bancroft Way, are located across the street
from each other on the southern edge of the UC Berkeley campus
between Telegraph and College Avenues.

By Car
From I-80:
Take University Ave. exit, east on University to Oxford St., right on
Oxford, left on Durant Ave. Take Durant to College Ave., left on
College, left on Bancroft Way.

From Westbound Highway 24:
Take College Ave. exit, right on College, left on Bancroft Way.

From Eastbound Highway 24:
Take Claremont Ave. exit, left on Claremont to College Ave., left on
College, left on Bancroft Way.

From Westbound Highway 13:
Take Highway 13 to Tunnel Road (Berkeley exit). Continue west on
Tunnel Road (becomes Ashby at Domingo, near the Claremont Hotel).
Turn right on College Ave., left on Bancroft Way.

By BART

Take BART to the Downtown Berkeley Station. Take AC Transit lines 51
or 7, or walk 15 minutes. To walk, go up the escalators to Shattuck
Ave., walk 3 blocks south on Shattuck, turn left on Bancroft Way.
Continue on Bancroft for 6 blocks to the theater or seven blocks to
the museum.

Or, take BART to the Rockridge Station. Take AC Transit lines 51, 7,
or 64 north on College, or walk 20 minutes. To walk, head north on
College Ave. to Bancroft Way, turn left on Bancroft.

By Bus
Take AC Transit lines 7, 51, or 64. For eastbound passengers, exit at
the corner of Durant and Bowditch. For westbound passengers, exit at
the corner of Bancroft and College for the museum, or Bancroft and
Bowditch for the theater.
