Attack of the Typewriters

This left-wing letter-writing party celebrates an undercelebrated
fact: Each real, hand-generated, ink-on-paper letter sent to elected
officials counts as 100 voices -- they figure 99 other people feel
the same way you do, but didn't bother to write. So if 10 people get
together in a bar, say, and write short, profanity-free messages
urging the president to stop the war-a-thon or get New Orleans some
fucking help pronto, it's as if 1000 people sent emails or called.
Don't even get us started on email petitions. You want to make a
difference? Come on down and show our typewriters (or a pen and a
piece of paper, for that matter) what you've got. We'll provide
paper, stamps, envelopes, sample letters, tips on writing your own
letter, and friendly help with all your letter-writing quandaries.
The celebration will feature a room full of hot-to-trot vintage
typewriters, hysterical skits by members of Rococo Risque, slutty
burlesque by Miss Jones, a special tune by enchanting chanteuse
Ariela Morgenstern and ivory-tickler Rob Reich, a Naughty Secretary
costume contest and more, all emceed by the irrepressible Jon
Wolanske of Killing My Lobster.
Later, dance it off to the 1960s garage rock of the Barbary Coasters!
