Poetry & Pizza presents Joie Cook & Bruce Isaacson

Fri, Sep 2
7:30-9:30

$5 donation

Poetry & Pizza features Joie Cook & Bruce Isaacson reading to benefit
Zeitgeist Press. (All money collected goes to this SF-founded press
that publishes poetry only.) Pizza is all-you-can-eat!

Joie Cook is a musician, poet and painter who has recently returned
to the Bay Area after a 4 year hiatus in the Northwest. Her many
chapbooks include My Body Is a War Toy (Zeitgeist) and Acts of
Submission (manic d). Currently, she is an advocate for Hepatitis C
research and cures.

Bruce Isaacson founded Zeitgeist Press in San Francisco in order to
see into print poets from the Cafe Babar series. In Las Vegas, where
he lives currently, Isaacson helps edit the Red Rock Review. In 2000
he made the news after Metro cop and Zeitgeist Press author Harry
Fagel was ejected from Barnes & Noble for using "the f-word" in a
poetry reading and Isaacson returned with eight other civil
guerrillas, selected classics from Barnes & Noble shelves (all
containing profanity), and began reading aloud to protest the
censorship. Bruce Isaacson has an MFA from Brooklyn College and has
published 7 books of poems, including his latest, Ghosts Among the
Neon (Zeitgeist, 2005).

Zeitgeist has published over 70 books, primarily poetry from the SF
Spoken Word revival of the mid-1980s. Its authors include Jack
Micheline, Jack Hirschman, Julia Vinograd, Eli Coppola, Andy Clausen,
Sparrow 13, Danielle Willis, Laura Conway, Jennifer Blowdryer,
Vampyre Mike, Kathleen Wood and many others.
