Roshambowinery presents "Varmints and Cerealism," an exhibition of
new work by
Will and Heidi McIverson. From their chicken coop studio in
Petaluma, the McIversons have hatched a show of works that skewer
sugar-pop animal kitsch.

The impetus of the work began with Heidi obsessively drawing cute
creatures on everything. But these creatures soon took a disturbing,
menacing twist as she fleshed out her drawings into three
dimensions. The result was a series of plush, creepy fabric figures
that seem to have come from an off-kilter thrift store.

Heidi's husband, Will, caught her wave but rode it in a different
direction. Using the cartoon-like imagery as a launching point, he
filters them through his love of serial work and painterly
abstraction. In 'Bitcute,' a set of works on paper, his images
resemble oversized bitmap fauna iconography. Another group of work
consists of transferred receipt drawings on plastic. These simple
graphical musings reveal the thought process behind much of the work
in this show.

The synergy of the two artists is apparent on a joint 25 foot-long
work on paper that captures the playful interaction and influence of
one another's concepts in their respective styles.

winery's commitment to art that lurks in the shadowy and sometimes
twisted corners of the mind. And keeping with the gallery's
idiosyncratic roots, the proceeds on sales go directly to the artist.
