Juried Exhibition: Altered & Strangely Democratic

Thu, Aug 11
6:00pm-9:00pm

Free

August 11th - 26th
Regular gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 12-6pm

The Juried Exhibition: Altered and Strangely Democratic will
highlight the overall process that transpires as a juried exhibition
is being created. Twelve artists will be recognized as well as all
the individuals that have contributed to the jury selection process.
The final exhibition hopes to reference comparisons in the jury
process that are quite similar to the same structures represented in
all areas of life.

Featured Artists will be: Jarrett Mitchell, Lettie Jane Rennekamp,
Bryan Kaplan, Joshua Pieper, Whitney Hubbs, Mads Lynnerup, Tonya
Solley Thorton, Jason Mortara, Ben Riesman, Amy Rathbone, Sue Pak and
Sarah Cain.

The framework for this exhibition consists of two juries; the first
is comprised of art professionals working for various art
institutions in the Bay Area. These individuals were most often the
people that are working as part of the institution's support staff or
infrastructure. The artists selected by the first jury were then put
forth to be reviewed by the second jury panel. The second jury is
comprised mostly of artists working in an experimental artist
residency program called the Independent School of Art. Joyce Grimm,
currently the only curatorial student in ISA, presented the idea. At
the present time the group is striving towards a collective quest for
diplomacy and a sound method of critique and constructive dialogue.
