Music and poetry weave together as poet Pireeni Sundaralingam and
violinist/composer Colm Riain's joint compositions explore a rich
tapestry of sound - from Indian raag to Irish ballads, from Bayou
blues to gypsy jazz. While Colm is a former leader of the National
Youth Orchestra of Ireland, Pireeni was recently named as one of
America's 'Emerging Writers' by the literary journal Ploughshares.
Together, their performances have 'rendered audiences breathless'
across the United States and in Europe. Their new CD, "Bridge Across
the Blue", winner of the Potrero Nuevo Prize, forges new links
between Native American chant and jazz, Aztec rhythms and African
blues, Indian scales and Irish laments as it explores the connections
between those who have arrived on these shores and the New World(s)
they have created. It features a host of top Bay Area artists
including Marcus Shelby, Francis Wong, Avotcja and Kid Beyond.
