Rhythm from Wreckage: The Art of Interruption (Bayennale screening)

Fri, Aug 5
8:00pm

$5

A thought on the tip of your tongue, elaborate emanations from a
garbled VCR, temporary constellations of coherency surface and
dissolve. Fleeting blips from an electronic elsewhere or trains of
thought de-railed, the artists in tonight's program relish the
aesthetic opportunities that emerge from interruption, malfunction
and other accidents. Kinetically modified, creatively sabotaged,
familiar structures reveal new possibilities. Featuring wreckage made
rhythmic by the likes of Cassandra C. Jones, Tim Jaeger, Jesse
England, Rosy Boyer, Zack Denfeld, Joey Bargsten and more!

The 2005 Bayennale is slated to take place in over 40 venues
throughout the Bay Area July 22- August 7, 2005. The festival was
instigated by California artist Lowell Darling and London artist Bill
Allen, and has been organized by a volunteer committee comprised of
Port of Oakland Public Art Committee (PAC) coordinator Geoff Dorn,
PAC members Gregory Wiley Edwards, Jen Loy and Juan Carlos Quintana,
BorderZone Arts' Tressa Berman, and Oakland Cultural Affairs
Commissioner Devin Satterfield, under the direction of Elisabeth Beaird.
