FROM THE CURATOR: Matt McKinley, ARTworkSF
Source and Inspiration is an exhibition addressing both the origin of
stylistic influences and the motivations for artistic expression, or,
simply
stated, why artists do what they do. Regardless of the artist's
methods,
medium, or subject matter, the transformation process of creative
thought
becoming physical reality is fueled by inspiration and is a
revelation into
the unique, and personal, way the artist 'sees'. Although it would
be valid
to assert that, ultimately, determining the 'meaning' of art is a
personal
experience for both the artist and viewer, the insight supplied by
the artist,
through an explanatory statement accompanied by representative
examples of
their work, can provide the groundwork for comprehension by the viewer.
