Skype Cofounders Start New Company to Lower Delivery Costs, Emissions & Time With Robots

Starship Robot

Skype cofounders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis have launched Starship Industries, a new company with the goal of creating autonomous delivery robots to implement what they call in a press release, “three zeroes – zero cost, zero waiting time and zero environmental impact.”

The robots are emissions free and can operate cheaply, eliminating the need for delivery fees. Their current model can carry a load of about two grocery bags up to a 30-minute travel distance from a centralized hub, and customers expecting an order can follow the robot’s movements using an app.
