Oh man! I can't wait for SXSW. This time, I'll be stocking up on shiner beer and taking it back with me. That stuff is so good!

FYI. Jack's Cannery in fishermans wharf has ShinerBock on tap. Discovered that last week.

Whoah, that is so weird. This popped up in my feeds right after finishing a sixer of the smokehaus.

It's not bad. A little waterier than I generally prefer, particularly for a smoked beer, but as with goose island's 312 that's not necessarily a bad thing; sometimes you drink a beer because you're thirsty, not because you want a small meal that happens to be liquid.

Therefore, I'd say this is a case of truth in advertising: this beer's best use is during the warmer months or with a salty or greasy meal, doubly suited then for a cookout.

I would not, however, describe it as "quite smoky." I don't think that's a bad thing either... beer that tastes like pork hocks is pretty awesome, but not every day. The mesquite flavor is there, but it's not as strong as other smoked beers I've had.

This is a good beer, especially with BBQ (Lockhart anyone?!), although not nearly as good as some of the other "local" beer around. You'll get to try it later this week. 512 One, 512 Pecan Porter (@512brewing), St Arnolds Oktoberfest (@saintarnold), Independence Oatmeal Stout, Live Oak Hefe. All Texas beers and all Yummy!!
