Scientists in New Zealand Examine the Second-Ever Intact Colossal Squid Specimen Live on YouTube

Scientists from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Auckland University of Technology broadcast their examination of a rare colossal squid specimen live on YouTube. The broadcast started at 11:30am NZT (7:30pm EDT) on September 16th, 2014 and lasted over three and a half hours while the scientists examined the animal thoroughly.

The specimen is only the second colossal squid ever caught intact. The other is already on display at Te Papa. That earlier specimen is 14 feet long and weighs 1,091lbs.
